Damaged

She would hide in her bed
terrified to leave her room
as she carved deep
while trying to hide her wound
she closed up her blinds
her room black as night
unable to withstand any light
if only she were able to choose
and forget the damaging abuse
if only she had the power to change the past
why couldn't her first breath
have been her last
only then would she have been able
to escape the life that was destined to be

from all the disturbing things she would see
